Fighting Eating Disorders

Mindfulness practices directed toward eating and the body can help combat eating disorders, evidence suggests.

Controlled studies have shown that mindfulness within psychotherapeutical programs helps reduce binge eating, whether or not it occurs with bulimia. For example, in randomized controlled trials at Duke and Indiana State University, binge eaters who took part in mindful-eating programs reduced their binging from an average of four times to once a week. They also reduced their levels of insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes.
