Study indicates mindfulness may help firefighters

An article in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology references a new study about the positive effects of mindfulness on urban firefighters.

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, investigated the association between mindfulness, other resilience resources, and several measures of health in 124 urban firefighters.

Results indicated that "mindfulness was associated with fewer PTSD symptoms, depressive symptoms, physical symptoms, and alcohol problems […]."
